Review // Benefit They're Real Mascara

Hello lovelies, hope your all having a wonderful day. Today I'm sharing my thoughts on another mascara and one that's very well known and rather popular.
Benefit they're real mascara £19.50

As you can see i have the small travel/sample size which i got free with a magazine a little while ago, which i was very excited to get and try as it had a lot of hype around it. I'm always honest when giving a review so i shall be no different if it's a holy grail product for loads of bloggers, i have a huge love hate relationship with this mascara.

On it's own i really can't get along with it, i find it clumps my lashes really bad, the wand is always loaded with too much product and is such a heavy formula it doesn't add any real lift or curl. Yes it may make them black and add length but they do not look like a lovely set of false eyelashes that it's meant to give the appearance of. Curling my eyelashes is a step i always take with any mascara i use but even when i took this step with this mascara it still didn't make it look great.  I really couldn't understand what all the hype and love for this product was all about, especially with the rather expensive price tag it comes with so i was rather disappointed.

However when i tried it a few weeks after i wiped the excess product off the wand and applied a very light coat over my MUA mega volume mascara (which i curled my lashes before i applied either mascara). Although i had to be very careful to avoid the lashes clumping together it made my lashes a lot darker, added some length, volume and slight curl. The formula was still quite heavy so through the day my lashes would lose their lift but overall it looked a million times better and give the appearance of what it was meant to. Applied like this i really like this mascara and it does look like I'm wearing a nice pair of false lashes.

So I'm really up in the air about this mascara on the one hand it looks like an awful cheep mascara but then it can look amazing if you take the time to apply it correctly. The main thing i have is this mascara is meant to give you amazing lashes with ease and is quicker then applying a pair of false lashes and i don't find this at all, i have to faff around with it for ages and could apply a set of false lashes with the same amount of concentration and time it takes me with this mascara. Due to this i have a huge problem with paying near enough £20 for a mascara i want to love but can really hate at times and have to try so hard to get it to work for me.

What's your thoughts on this raved about mascara? X

  1. I really liked this mascara, but found it dried out so quickly!
It worked really well for me, but I definitely wouldn't pay £20 for a full size one.
Loved reading a different viewpoint on this hyped about product :)
    KR x

    1. £20 is an awful lot for a mascara, glad it worked well for you strange how it acts differently for different people isn't it x

  2. I love this mascara! I have the sample version and its great :) Great indepth post!

    1. A lot of people really like it, funny how it just doesn't work with me haha x

  3. Hi, a few years ago i had a makeover from benefit and they use a similar mascara (i think) and found it stayed on, didn't dry my eyes out and look really nice. I hasn't tried this mascara but from your review, i should give a go however i agree with Keziah as i wouldn't pay £20 for it - wouldn't say no for a feebie! But then who wouldn't!!

    1. It's a lot of money to try something new, that's why i love magazine freebies haha x

  4. I hated this mascara. I paid full price for a full-sized product, and i regret it so much. I have the same problems you had with it, and it only looked decent after applying it lightly over The Falsies mascara. I really wish I didn't buy into the hype. Never again.

    1. YAY i'm glad someone agrees haha, although sucks that you paid a lot more than me to find out you didn't like it x

  5. Lovely Blog :)
